Cairanne wines are indeed out of the ordinary, a style of which we are the guarantor.
Grape varieties :
Cairanne wines, and this is one of their riches, are produced from complex and diverse planted grape varieties. They stand out through this variety as they do through the quality of their terroirs. This 'poly-encepagement' has improved throughout history. The wines of Cairanne comprise in particular:
(for red wine: Grenache (60 to 70%), Syrah (20 to 30%), Mourvèdre (10 to 20%).
- for white wine: Grenache blanc (50%), Clairette (25%), completed by Bourboulenc, Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier.
Grenache noir, of Spanish origin, withstands the mistral and drought. It develops roundness, fruit and spices. Grenache feels right at home at Cairanne.
Syrah (sotanum latin) was probably planted first in the region, imposed by the Greeks in 6 BC and used by the Voconces to produce wines of renown. This grape variety produces colourful, richly aromatic wine with good ageing potential.
Mourvèdre is also of Spanish origin. This is a variety that demands light and heat; in optimal conditions offered by a certain number of Cairanne's hillsides, it produces intensity and complexity, while favouring ageing.
Typicity :
Cairannaise typicity is highly recognisable. Always structured and dense, Cairanne wines are distinctively elegant. You'll recognise them by recalling the Cairanne pyramid :
